Hi, I’m Jamie, Principal at Sacred Heart Mona Vale,
Last year I met with the CatholicCare foster care team and was shocked to learn that across our Diocese there are more than 1,300 children and young people in Out of Home Care. These children find themselves in foster care, group homes or supported care with kin or relatives. And this number is far above the state average.
Like me, I think the majority of our school families would be unaware that this is happening on our doorstep.
I have asked Sean Cashin, the General Manager for CatholicCare’s Foster Care Program to talk to us about the need for foster carers on the Northern Beaches. Watch this video to find out more……

Gabriel, a local Northern Beaches boy who loves swimming and dinosaurs, is one of dozens of children on the Northern Beaches tonight who has nowhere to call home. He has been removed from his family due to serious concerns for his safety and wellbeing.
CatholicCare, the social services arm of the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Broken Bay, met with me late last year to brief me on the urgent need for foster carers on the Northern Beaches and I was shocked that such a reality exists on our doorstep.
I urge our school families to consider helping these children through fostering, even on a respite one-weekend-a-month type basis.
The CatholicCare foster care team (another of our Diocesan agencies in Broken Bay under Bishop Anthony’s leadership) would be delighted to chat to you anytime.
