Human Society and its Environment

At Sacred Heart we aim to encourage the development of children who act rationally, sensitively and responsibly in a rapidly changing world.

Human Society and its Environment (HSIE) enhances each student’s sense of personal, community, national and global identity and enables them to participate effectively in maintaining and improving the quality of their society and environment.

The HSIE curriculum area is comprised of the two disciplines of History and Geography.

History is a disciplined process of enquiry into the past that helps to explain how people, events and forces from the past have shaped our world.

Geography is the study of places and the relationships between people and their environments.

Our History and Geography subject areas are taught in the library with specialist teachers and use Inquiry Based Learning, where students research topic areas, finding answers to interesting questions, and present back to the class.

The values in this subject tie in very closely with Religious Education and in many ways is the KLA where faith, life and culture come together.
